PRINT OF THE YEAR: MERIT CLASS
'MONK' by Zelinda (Zz) de Cruz AIMS
Apparatus: Nikon
This photo was taken whilst on a journey through Myanmar from Bagan to Mount Popa. Our photography group was on a mission to locate the remote village of Set Set Yo which is about an hour off the main road down dusty dirt tracks. The isolated settlement is the last place where it’s possible to witness children with the yaung pae soo hairstyle {a topknot with a circular fringe} which is a fading tradition dating back to the Pagan Empire, around AD 850. Manipulation: Processed in Lightroom - cropping slightly then correcting the black and white clipping. |

'Early Morning Flight' by Neil Treloar AIMS
Apparatus: Canon 1DX Full Frame
It was a beautiful September morning at 7.00 and I was using my new very expensive lens for about the 2nd or 3rd time and I wanted to see if the results of the lens was making the purchase worthwhile. What better way than trying to get the egret sharp in flight - and believe me this lens is sensational - you can see by the results how good it is!! I was also using a gimble head attached to my tripod specifically to get as sharp an image as possible! I was watching the egret on the bank of of the harbour and all of a sudden off he went and as I had the camera set on continual at 10 frames per second I got a whole series of about 7 or 8 images, which were worthy of the cost alone! Manipulation: I just tweaked the contrast, exposure and as the image was white I reduced the highlights so as not to blow the egret's feathers out. I also added a little clarity and cloned out some bits of feathers in the water to give it the results that you see. |
PDI OF THE YEAR: CLUB CLASS
'Covadonga Lake, Asturias, Spain' by Paul Pritchard AIMS
Apparatus: Nikon D3200
Inspiration: On a recent visit to see my daughter Jessica in Spain, we took a trip up to the mountains to the place where her boyfriend proposed to her. The scenery was absolutely fantastic and I just had to record some of it. I was using Jessica’s camera a Nikon D3200 with kit lens and thought it had to be a ‘classic’ shot of Mountain, lake and tree. It may be an ‘old fashioned’ idea but the reflection of the mountain in the lake and the tree located at the waters edge…. it just had to be done. Manipulation: The image had a very small adjustment made to it and for this one I used the free app Snapseed. |
PRINT OF THE YEAR: CLUB CLASS
'Early Morning Wonders' by Mick Merridue AIMS
I took it in December last year at Arundel Park, when I got there it was thick fog first thing in the morning so hung about, then the sun started to break through so just shot a few pictures as I walked back, this one was among them. Done a bit of work on photoshop using the blaster tool and finished up with this picture. Ed note: The version shown above has been produced by scanning the print. Unfortunately, the process has not been able to fully capture the beautiful tonality of the original image. |
