Sussex
WILDLIFE TRUST PHOTO COMPETITION 'Wild About Sussex' We are looking for 12 stunning photographs capturing the best of the wildlife and landscapes of Sussex. We'd love to see your local wildlife shots. Amaze us with the ladybirds in your garden, migrating wildfowl, macro spiders, flowers carpeting a woodland floor, colourful fungi, clouds of downland butterflies or a sleeping hedgehog in the park. Show us the wild places that are special to you. It could be high on the Downs, deep in the woods or your favourite urban nature spot. |
Big Butterfly Count
Do your bit for conservation anytime up until the end of August. All you need to do is download the checklist, pick a spot on a sunny day and count how many different species you see in a 15-minute period. Download your results on the Big Butterfly Count website. Now here comes the rub. There are three different types of 'cabbage' white and the little blighters don't sit still long enough to spot the distinguishing marks. So, our tip.....photograph them and then complete the I.D. This cracking shot was taken by Carl's granddaughter Eleanor aged 12, using a simple compact camera on 'auto'. Granddad is going to give it a go! |

Fancy a trip to the theatre on Saturday 28th July?
Andrew W has tickets (free!) for the matinee performance of '35mm' - a film camera themed production by the University Musical Theatre Society. The show starts at 14.00 at the Assmebly Hall, Bognor Regis Campus. Parking is free on a Saturday (best check though in case they've changed it). There is a student bar and programmes for sale to raise funds to take the show to the Edinburgh Fringe so they'd love a sell out. Why not come along and support the next generation of actors? |
SUNDAY 22nd July
Missed it? See new date below Pop-Up Exhibition on the Bandstand
This, our third outing to the bandstand, was no doubt one of our best (and warmest!!!), that was until the wind got up! We were packed out with visitors in the morning and, thankfully, things settled down into a civilised pace during the early afternoon. Once again, our regular musician, Yuliya, entertained us with a mix of classical and contemporary music, both bowed and plucked on the violin. And, best of all, we met lots of old friends and some folk that rather fancy joining MCC in September; we are really looking forward to welcoming them. We had such fun, that we plan to revisit the bandstand again on the 5th of August....but not before Carl has found a fix for the wind problem (no, not a medical complaint)! If anyone in the seafront flats had a video, then we are now probably on YouTube doing the spinning plate 'dance' as we ducked and dived to catch the flying prints!!!! So, a date for your diary......SUNDAY 5TH AUGUST Hope to see you there! |
SUNDAY 29th July
Middleton Summer Fete EXHIBITION
If you don't make the exhibition why not come along to the Middleton Summer Fete instead, always a good day out. Shrubbs Field (opp. Bereford Pub) Elmer Road Middleton, PO22 6EH We will be hosting a much larger exhibition space in our marquee on the field, so do bring along some mounted prints for display. If you are happy to part with your masterpiece then just jot a price on the back - 10% to be donated to club funds. We will be setting up from 10.00 (helpers always welcome) and the event opens at 12.00 and runs until 16.00. If the fete follows previous years it will start with a dog show, have several arena displays and, possibly, a large collection of classic cars.... however....it is proving hard to find any information! But we'll be there! |
Love Your NIK Collection (filters)?
You must read this......and save your money! Many of you will have taken advantage of the useful NIK Collection post-production filters when they were released free of charge some time ago by Google. These came with a general message that these were no longer in the pipeline for updates so 'fill your boots' so to speak. But, wait, did you not just get an email telling you the 'new' NIK Collection was available for a limited time for £39 - now £59? Seems Google got bored of 'filters' and the collection was purchased by DxO, a French company that has now, rather strangely, filed for bankrupcty protection while charging for something that was free! Don't waste your money! Turns out that this 'new' NIK Collection is exactly the same as the original; download the free trial to see for yourself. Seemingly, all they have done is fixed a few bugs (have yet to find out what they were) and provided compatability updates for Photoshop CC. Thankfully though, as many of you will have worked out by now, there are work-arounds so that you can continue to access NIK in Adobe Creative Cloud. OK Nik won't work in Lightroom CC 2018 but just switch to Photoshop CC and you are back in business.....and £59 better off! Credit to Ken of the RPS Digital Imaging Group who tested and shared this tip. |
NIK Filters Noise reduction; vintage; HDR; B&W; sharpening and so much more. To install and run the filters in Photoshop CC...
FILE > AUTOMATE > NIK COLLECTION FILTERS If you use the simpler FILTERS>NIK COLLECTION command it will repeatedly crash Photoshop CC 2018 and Elements 2018. |

We'd love to see your photos... Why not send us your pics and we'll add them to the Members' Gallery? During June we have had three members set up or update their galleries and there is room for many more. All you need to do is pick your faves, format them in a low resolution format (as for PDI) and send them to us - HERE. Why not add a summary profile to tell us what makes you tick, what you like and any tips you want to share? If you have a Flickr page then share that too...... |
