Johnnie Yates
I first became interested in Photography in 1966 at RAF Gibraltar. One of my responsibilities was being the Officer in Charge of the station photographic section and my only qualified photographer broke both his arms in a motorcycle accident. Franco’s aircraft were harassing civilian aircraft and an automatic camera was used to record each incident so that the evidence could be sent back to the UK each evening. I had to learn developing and printing overnight, at a time when I did not even own a camera. The magic of the darkroom has been with me ever since.
I like photographing people in the street and in the studio but also have an interest in the artistic use of modern photo manipulation techniques.
