1st Place
'Gdynia Harbour Entrance' by Johnnie Yates AIMS
Apparatus: Nikon D5200
Inspiration: This image was initially a record shot taken on a recent cruise to the Baltic. Gdyina is the main port for the Polish city of Gdansk and is a typical dreary, run down commercial port. However, it does have a pair of photogenic lighthouses either side of the entrance. Manipulation: There was an ugly dredging barge just outside the harbour entrance and I could not persuade the port authorities to move it so I had to resort to a bit patching and cloning in Photoshop in order to shift it. A simple crop and two nik filters produced an image that I was delighted with. Fortunately, so was the judge! |
2nd Place
'Garden Spider' by Alan Fitzgerald AIMS
Apparatus: Nikon D7200
Inspiration: I was watching this spider, having walked into it’s web earlier and as the light was helpful decided to photo it as the colours and markings were so clear. Had to wait a while before it walked into a decent position. Manipulation: Cropped to remove extraneous bits, de-hazed fractionally and slightly darkened as background was very bright. 3rd Place
'High Tea' by Carl Smith AIMS
Apparatus: Canon EOS 80D
Inspiration: I quite fancied sitting on a front row table to watch and photograph the shipping, which I like to do. The front line tables were all laid out for High Tea. A bit of a pricy a place to sit these days: The Spinnaker tower and Gun Wharf are currently going all corporate, which is very sad. Anyway I took a shot of the laid table as it portrayed an imaginative and maybe romantic image. Manipulation: Just decreased the green cast from the windows and cropped to size and bordered for digital projection.
