Chairman's Challenge Competition 2017
Judge Mike Warren
Judge Mike Warren
The Challenge featured two themed competitions 'Windows' (print) and 'After Dark' (PDI): awards go to the winner in each category.
Chairman's Challenge Print Winner
'Shady Spot' by Lyn Phillips AIMS
Apparatus: Canon G1X II (compact)
A trip to Mumbai inspired this shot. The railway station is a photographer's dream, but can be frantically busy. In the heat of the day however, the waiting areas calm down and people rest on the few seats available. I loved the way the light tipped in the windows; this reminded me of the iconic shots of Grand Central Station (New York). Manipulation: I passed this through a filter to add a sepia tone to give it an aged feeling in keeping with the building, I also printed on a matt paper to bring out the tonal range. |
Chairman's Challenge PDI Winner
'After Dark' by Andrew Worsfold AIMS
Apparatus: Olympus em5ii
Created especially for this competition. The basic model headshot was taken actually at Fratton Park football ground in Portsmouth! Manipulation Combined with an image of the moon and various filters/effects added in from apps on my iPad. Described as a marmite image by the judge on the night luckily for me it got a positive reaction. |
